The Ekiti State Governor and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has picked his form to contest the 2023 presidential election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress day after his declaration, sources in APC said on Sunday.

The source did not however give reasons to The PUNCH why he took the form in secret.

He said, “Fayemi made the declaration on Wednesday and bought the form on Thursday. So, I can confirm it to you authoritatively; the declaration was on Wednesday, and he picked the form on Thursday.”

Asked why the governor picked his form secretly and by proxy, the source said there was no law against it.

“It is not everyone that wants to make noise about it. There’s no reason for it, somebody can pick the form for you. Provided you have paid, anybody can walk in and pick up the forms for you. There’s no law that says you must go there with pomp and pageantry. People pick the forms through any means, a staff of yours can pick them. Fayemi has picked form without noise.”

When contacted, one of Fayemi’s aides who did not want to be mentioned said, “yes, it’s true, governor Kayode Fayemi collected his form a day after declaration.”

Fayemi had on Wednesday, May 4 in Abuja formally declared for the 2023 presidency under the platform of the APC with a promise to “retool the Armed Forces and security agencies.”

He also promised decentralisation for government to be brought closer to the people.

Fayemi stated these while unveiling his agenda if the APC clears him as its flagbearer for the presidency in 2023, with a promise to run a decent campaign.

He promised other aspirants that “I will adhere to the highest standards of decorum and decency”. He, therefore, promised to embrace any route that gives Nigerians a voice to decide their future.

Fayemi said, “I will retool the armed forces, intelligence agencies; the border guards will be pursued in tandem with an overhaul of the country’s policing system and the phasing in of bold universal social policies that will decisively tackle poverty and upgrade human capital and security. I will also run a decent campaign.”
