Former Minister of Communications and the Director–General of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu/Shetima for good governance, Barr. Adebayo Shittu has come hard against Afenifere leadership under Pa Ayo Adebanjo for losing its focus on the core objectives of protecting the interest of the Yoruba people in Nigeria for which AFENIFERE was established.
Barr. Adebayo Shittu made the statement while featuring on Raypower Indigenous Current Affairs and Political Programme tagged OKODORO on Saturday morning, anchored by the Multiple Award Winning Broadcast Journalist, Olayemi Afolabi.
When asked to comment on the crisis in the leadership of Afenifere between Pa Reuben Fasoranti and Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Barr. Shittu said, “It is unfortunate that Pa Ayo Adebanjo has lost focus on the core values and objectives of protecting the interest of the Yoruba people because how do you explain to people that a cultural organisation like Afenifere is endorsing Peter Obi for President when Ohaneze Ndigbo will not endorse any candidate outside the Igbo race.
“For that singular act of sabotage against Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidential ambition, it is incumbent on Pa Ruben Fasoranti to correct the wrong because Agba o ni wa loja kori Omo tun tun o wo”, he added.
On the plan by the CBN to redesign some naira notes Shittu said: “Central Bank of Nigeria is the only constitutionally backed financial institution to redesign legal tenders and CBN is within the ambit of the law”.
When the presenter, Afolabi asked the former Minister to talk about presidential candidates that Nigeria needs come 2023, Shittu pointed out that the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu/Shetima presidency will usher Nigeria into the prosperity of unimaginable development because of the giant developmental projects the candidates are pregnant with”.
When reminded that Atiku Abubakar is also in the race, Shittu said; “Atiku has never headed any level of government, be it local government, state government or federal government but Tinubu led Lagos State from small economy to a prosperous digital economy 24 hours daily with clear succession master plan which worthy successors have kept faith with”.
On the age of APC presidential candidate, Tinubu being 70 years old, the former Minister responded “I am 69 years of age now, does that mean I can’t participate in government again? Nigeria as a country needs Tinubu’s wealth of experience more than Tinubu needs Nigeria”.
Reacting to callers that asked Tinubu/Shetima Director–General what good governance the APC will use to campaign, Shittu responded that, “APC-led government has performed creditably well and has a lot to show for it in the area of infrastructure, security, agriculture, among others.”
