The Baale of Ilua, Saki, Chief Kilani Omofoyewa, has firmly dismissed widespread rumours suggesting his impeachment, describing the claims as misleading and unfounded, while appealing to traditional authorities and relevant stakeholders to critically review the matter in the interest of justice, peace, and communal stability.
Chief Omofoyewa made this clarification following an official statement credited to His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Surv. Khalid Olabisi Ayinla Ado, the Okere of Sakiland, which had sparked public speculation regarding the status of the Ilua traditional stool.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen, the Baale categorically denied all allegations levelled against him, particularly accusations bordering on illegal mining activities and other misconducts, insisting that such claims were false, unsubstantiated, and deliberately circulated to tarnish his reputation.
“I have never been involved in illegal mining or any activity capable of undermining the peace and development of Ilua community,” Chief Omofoyewa stated. “These allegations are baseless and do not reflect my years of service and commitment to my people.”
Beyond his personal defence, members of the Baale’s family also voiced deep concerns over the situation, noting that the controversy surrounding the alleged sack has thrown the family into emotional and traditional distress. According to them, the development has negatively affected internal family cohesion and the sanctity of the traditional institution.
The family, therefore, passionately appealed to the Okere of Sakiland, the Okere-in-Council, Saki Parapo, and other critical stakeholders across Sakiland to reconsider the issue holistically, warning that the matter carries serious traditional implications.
They stressed that, based on ancestral customs and spiritual beliefs, no individual within the family dares to ascend or occupy the Ilua stool under the prevailing circumstances, claiming that any such action could invite grave consequences, including spiritual affliction.
In furtherance of their appeal, supporters and family members of the Baale staged a peaceful protest to the palace of the Okere of Sakiland, where they expressed their grievances in an orderly manner, emphasizing their commitment to peace, dialogue, and respect for constituted traditional authority.
Placards and chants during the protest called for fairness, thorough investigation, and reconciliation, rather than what they described as hasty conclusions driven by misinformation.
Meanwhile, the Baale’s camp also used the opportunity to reassure the Oyo State Government and the general public that Ilua community remains peaceful and development-oriented. They highlighted ongoing efforts aimed at maintaining harmony, promoting grassroots development, and sustaining cordial relationships among residents.
They urged the state government and relevant institutions to objectively examine the situation to prevent escalation and preserve the long-standing peace in Saki and its environs.
