The Chairman Governing Council of The Oke Ogun Polytechnic Saki, Barr. Sarafadeen Lateef Onijo, on Friday 7th October 2022 launched tree planting campaign in the institution, as part of activities to secure the land of the school being encroached by the people and also to optimise environmental quality and human health for the current and future generations.
He explained that trees provide numerous economic and ecosystem services that produce benefits to communities and welfare of the citizens, adding that the importance of tree planting, which includes but is not limited to provisions of shade, enhancement of ecosystem, reduction in the effect of carbon emissions cannot be over emphasised phased.
The Chairman, while planting the tree made it known that trees planting campaign is going on round the world and it also beautifies our environment.
He furthered that if planting of trees is well-promoted, it would have an impact on the kind of environment that will live in.
He appreciated Dr. Philips Eniola who donated two thousand seedlings of Gmillena trees for planting round the edges of the school land.
He added that it’s part of the council plan to establish orchard whereby everybody includes Rector, Registrar and all staff be it Academics and non Academics staff will also plant a tree be it mango citrus and other economic trees with a view to having juice factory inside the school which will serve as another IGR for the school.
He later made a symbolic planting of the Gmillena tree after Rector, Registrar and other staff members performed the same exercise.
The exercise was suspended with a closing prayer where the CSO of the school prayed extensively for the institution the donor the executive governor of Oyo state and the council chairman in general.
