The Okere of Sakiland, Oba (Dr) Surv. Khalid Olabisi Ilugbemidepo Ayinla Ado II, convened a crucial meeting with the local Traders Association. The session, held at the Okere’s palace, was led by High Chief Gasali Adegoke, Baagi of Saki, and attended by prominent members of the Traders Association from Saki and its surrounding areas.
During the meeting, High Chief Gasali Adegoke, representing Oba Ayinla Ado II, underscored the necessity for fair and reasonable pricing of goods and services. He expressed deep concern about the escalating cost of essential items and its detrimental effects on the daily lives of Sakiland residents. The Okere stressed the need for traders to balance their profit margins with the economic realities facing the community.
“We must work together to ensure that our people are not burdened by excessive prices,” Oba Ayinla Ado II stated. “Fair pricing is not only a matter of business ethics but also a demonstration of our commitment to the well-being of our community.”
The meeting provided a platform for various associations to outline their individual challenges and propose potential solutions. Key issues discussed included the role of middlemen between farmers and traders, as well as the practices of traders from other cities like Lagos, Ibadan, and Osogbo who purchase goods before the harvest season.
The Okere-in-Council called for thoughtful consideration of these issues amidst growing concerns about inflation and its impact on the cost of living in Sakiland. The Council emphasized that if a resolution could not be reached, the Okere would take necessary measures that could affect all parties involved.
Members of the Traders Association expressed their willingness to work with the royal leadership to implement fair pricing strategies. This initiative reflects Oba Ayinla Ado II’s ongoing efforts to promote economic stability and ensure that the benefits of trade are distributed equitably among Sakiland’s residents.
The Okere-in-Council promised to provide comprehensive feedback to Oba Khalid, with a commitment to deliver immediate judgment on the matters discussed.
