BREAKING: Police Intercept Truck Conveying 40 Bags of Explosives in Saki

The Oyo State Police Command has intercepted a large consignment of explosives and arrested a truck driver in Saki, in what security officials have described as a major breakthrough in an intelligence-led operation.

According to statement made available by Deji Adesogan on X known as Twitter stated that the operation was carried out on Friday, January 24, at about 11:10 p.m. in the Sango area of Saki, following credible intelligence received by security operatives regarding the movement of suspicious materials within the town.

Police sources disclosed that a DAF truck with registration number OGUN SGM 765 XB was stopped during a routine stop-and-search operation. The vehicle was being driven by Mutairu Yusuf, a 30-year-old man from Atiru Compound, Chikanda, in Kwara State.

A thorough search of the truck led to the recovery of 40 bags of explosives, which were reportedly concealed within the vehicle. Preliminary interrogation revealed that the explosives were allegedly loaded in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, and were en route to Chikanda in Kwara State.

Following the discovery, the driver was immediately taken into custody while the explosives were secured in line with standard safety protocols to prevent any potential danger to the public.

In response to the gravity of the incident, the Oyo State Police Command has commenced a joint investigation involving the Police Monitoring Unit and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal – Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit. The investigation is aimed at determining the origin of the explosives, the network behind their transportation, and their intended use.

Police authorities reassured residents of Saki and the wider Oyo State that adequate measures have been put in place to ensure public safety, stressing that the Command remains committed to proactive policing and intelligence-driven operations.

The Police further assured that the suspect will be diligently investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law, while additional details will be made public as investigations progress.
