Hon. Kareem Tajudeen Abisodun, the Member representing Saki West, Saki East, and Atisbo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has joined the rest of the nation in mourning the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in London.
In a solemn condolence message made available to newsmen by Sheu Shittu Megida , his special Adviser on Media and Publicity on Monday, Hon. Abisodun described the late statesman as a towering figure in Nigeria’s political and military history, whose life was defined by discipline, integrity, and a profound commitment to the unity and progress of the Nigerian state.
“With deep sadness, I extend my heartfelt condolences on the passing of His Excellency, former President Muhammadu Buhari, in London,” Hon. Abisodun stated. “Nigeria has lost a statesman whose service to our nation spanned decades with unwavering dedication and patriotism. His legacy, marked by discipline, integrity and a steadfast commitment to national unity, will not be forgotten.”
The lawmaker further extolled Buhari’s decades-long impact on Nigeria’s political and administrative landscape, from his service as a military head of state in the 1980s to his democratic return as President from 2015 to 2023. According to Abisodun, Buhari’s governance style, often defined by his zero-tolerance for corruption and emphasis on public accountability, earned him both respect and global recognition.
Hon. Abisodun acknowledged that Buhari’s administration was not without criticism, but emphasized that history will remember him as a leader who, in challenging times, stood firm in pursuit of national interest.
“On behalf of myself and the good people I represent,” he added, “I pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) grants him eternal rest and forgives his shortcomings. May Allah also grant the family, friends, and the entire nation the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.”
The late President Muhammadu Buhari, a native of Daura in Katsina State, was known for his austere lifestyle, firm personal discipline, and strong stance on anti-corruption. His passing marks the end of an era in Nigeria’s modern political evolution and has prompted an outpouring of tributes from global leaders, national institutions, political figures, and citizens across the country.
As the nation begins official mourning and preparations for burial rites in accordance with Islamic traditions, Hon. Abisodun called for a moment of national reflection and unity in honor of the late president’s lifelong commitment to the service of Nigeria.
“Now more than ever, we must recommit ourselves to the ideals of justice, discipline, and unity that President Buhari espoused. That will be the greatest tribute to his enduring legacy,” he concluded.
