As Nigeria joins the global community in celebrating the 2025 edition of Children’s Day, Hon. Kareem Tajudeen Abisodun, Member representing Saki West, Saki East, and Atisbo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has extended heartfelt felicitations to children across the nation, while reaffirming his enduring commitment to policies and programs that safeguard their rights and enhance their development.
In a statement issued by Sheu Shittu Megida, his special adviser on Media and Publicity on Tuesday, Hon. Abisodun described children as “the most valuable assets of any society,” emphasizing their role as the moral, intellectual, and economic compass for the nation’s future. He noted that societies that invest strategically in child welfare and youth development are the ones best positioned for long-term peace, innovation, and prosperity.
“Children are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are stakeholders of today. Our responsibility, as parents, leaders, and institutions, is to build structures that ensure every child—regardless of background—has access to quality education, healthcare, protection, and opportunities for growth,” Hon. Abisodun said.
The lawmaker highlighted numerous initiatives under his constituency development programs, ranging from educational scholarships, school infrastructure enhancement, digital literacy training, to child healthcare outreaches. These, he stated, are reflections of his belief in creating an enabling environment where children can flourish, free from violence, poverty, and neglect.
He further stressed the significance of government accountability and policy formulation that are inclusive of the voices and needs of children. According to him, a progressive Nigeria cannot be built without deliberate and sustained investments in human capital from the earliest stages of life.
“As we mark this symbolic day, I urge all relevant stakeholders—government agencies, civil society, traditional institutions, educators, and families—to join hands in promoting the rights, dignity, and well-being of the Nigerian child. Our future depends on what we do for them today,” he concluded.
Children’s Day, observed annually on May 27 in Nigeria, serves as a powerful reminder of the urgent need to protect and nurture the nation’s younger generation, many of whom continue to face challenges ranging from access to education, health disparities, to displacement due to insecurity.
Hon. Abisodun’s message, therefore, stands as a clarion call for comprehensive child-centered governance and a renewed national consciousness toward building a safer, more equitable Nigeria for the youth.
