As the world celebrates Christmas, the Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has sent heartfelt greetings to Christians across the state, encouraging them to embrace the festive season with responsibility, compassion, and mindfulness.
In his annual Christmas message to the people of Oyo State, Governor Makinde called on citizens to prioritize safety and unity, ensuring that the season is marked by joy and peace.
The governor, who acknowledged the significance of the season for Christians, emphasized the importance of celebrating responsibly. He urged residents to be proactive in implementing crowd control measures at public gatherings and events, especially where large numbers are expected.
“It is crucial that, as we gather to mark this special occasion, we put in place necessary crowd control measures. Where appropriate, security agencies should be involved to maintain order and prevent any unfortunate incidents,” the governor stated.
Governor Makinde also used the opportunity to remind the people of Oyo State to keep the welfare of the state and the country at the forefront of their thoughts during the holiday period.

“As we celebrate Christmas, let us not forget those mourning, particularly those who have lost loved ones, including the children who tragically lost their lives in the recent stampede. My thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time,” he remarked.
In a call for vigilance, Governor Makinde reminded residents to be watchful and alert as they partake in the festivities. “The yuletide season is often a time for heightened social activities, and with this comes the need for extra caution. I urge everyone to be vigilant and report any suspicious movements or activities to the relevant authorities,” he said.
To assist in ensuring public safety, Governor Makinde urged residents to make use of the State Emergency Number 615 to report emergencies or suspicious activities.
“In this season, it is important for all of us to remain proactive and vigilant. Let us work together to keep our communities safe by reporting anything unusual to the security agencies,” he concluded.
