The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Adekimi Ojo, on Tuesday undertook an on-the-spot assessment visit to Eruku community in Ekiti Local Government Area, following reports of a recent security breach that unsettled the area.
The visit, according to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, formed part of swift measures taken by the Command to restore public confidence, review operational gaps, and reinforce security architecture in the affected community.
CP Ojo was received on arrival by the Divisional Police Officer, Eruku Division, and other tactical commanders who had earlier been deployed to the area to evaluate the situation and coordinate immediate response strategies. Their presence, the PPRO noted, underscored the Command’s readiness to ensure that the perpetrators of the attack are apprehended and that normalcy is fully restored.
During the visit, the Commissioner was accompanied by the State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Micheal Oganwu, alongside senior officers from various security formations. The delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Owa of Eruku Land, His Royal Highness, Oba Busari Oyediran, in his palace.
Oba Oyediran, while receiving the security chiefs, expressed deep appreciation for the rapid intervention of the security agencies, describing their response as reassuring at a time when the community was gripped by anxiety. He lamented the disruption caused by the attack, noting that Eruku had long been known for its peaceful and hospitable environment.
The monarch called for an increased deployment of security personnel to bolster surveillance and deter future breaches. He emphasised the need for synergy between law enforcement agencies and local security structures, stressing that such collaboration remained vital to safeguarding lives and property.
In continuation of his fact-finding mission, CP Ojo held an interactive session with community leaders, youth representatives, local vigilante operatives, and residents. The engagement, according to the statement, afforded the Commissioner the opportunity to obtain firsthand accounts of the incident, assess community concerns, and reassure residents of the Command’s unwavering determination to protect them.
“The safety and security of our people remain our highest priority. We will not relent in our efforts to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice,” CP Ojo was quoted as saying.
The security delegation also visited Christ Apostolic Church, Oke-Isegun, one of the locations reportedly affected by the attack. The resident pastor, Mr. Bamidele, narrated how the incident unfolded and conducted the officials around the impacted sections of the church premises. He described the attack as traumatic for the congregation and expressed optimism that the renewed security measures would help restore calm.
The Kwara State Police Command has since intensified surveillance and reinforced security presence within and around Eruku community, urging residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or individuals.
As investigations continue, authorities assure that all necessary resources will be deployed to ensure lasting peace and enhanced safety across the local government and the state at large.
