The revelation came from the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Uche Nnaji, during the Nigeria-EU Innovation Days seminar held in Lagos. Highlighting the importance of technological advancement, Nnaji emphasized that leveraging EU expertise would enhance research capabilities, foster innovation in key sectors such as e-health, agritech, and industry 4.0, and ultimately drive economic growth.

Representing the minister at the event, Dr. Matthew Adepoju, Director General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), underscored that technology innovation serves as the engine of economic progress for any nation. The seminar, a collaborative effort between the EU and Nigerian government, convened stakeholders from Nigeria, across Africa, and European research and innovation ecosystems.

The two-day event facilitated discussions on innovative opportunities in sectors critical to Nigeria’s economy, including e-health, agritech, and industry 4.0. Participants expressed optimism that the EU-Africa Innovation Agenda would be transformative, unlocking Africa’s immense potentials and fostering sustainable economic development.

With the partnership set to deepen collaboration between Nigerian and European research institutions, expectations are high for significant advancements in technology-driven solutions tailored to local needs. This collaboration marks a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s journey towards harnessing technology to leapfrog economic challenges and propel national development goals forward.

As both entities gear up to implement joint initiatives aimed at technological advancement, stakeholders anticipate tangible outcomes that will not only benefit Nigeria but also strengthen ties between Africa and Europe in the realm of innovation and economic cooperation.
