First Anniversary: Wike’s Performance Provides Hope in Tinubu Administration

Must read

In the past week, President Bola Tinubu has been actively commissioning various projects in Abuja to celebrate his first year in office. These projects, executed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, have included roads, bridges, and other infrastructure developments. While some of these projects were initiated by the current FCT Administration under Barr. Wike, others were inherited from previous administrations.

Since their appointment in August 2023, about 10 months ago, Wike and the Minister of State, Mariyam Mahmud, have arguably completed more projects than Wike’s predecessor, Mohammed Bello, did in his eight years in office. The former Rivers State governor and presidential aspirant from the PDP has, in many opinions, justified his selection to serve in the APC federal administration, earning the reputation as one of the “star boys” of the Tinubu administration.

Notably, Wike is the first southerner to be appointed FCT minister in the current Fourth Republic. Despite many projects being initiated by his predecessor, Mr. Bello, the current minister has brought a sense of urgency to the administration of a city like Abuja. Contractors have worked tirelessly, day and night, to ensure the completion of these projects in time for the president to mark his first anniversary in office.

However, Premiumtimes reported that while the development of infrastructure under Mr. Wike is evident, residents in the FCT suburbs have mixed reactions to his performance. Some residents praise the improvements in road infrastructure and security, while others express dissatisfaction, citing a lack of intracity and intercity buses and insufficient water infrastructure in satellite towns.
