Professor Adeolu Akande, the former Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has issued a heartfelt appeal to Nigerians, urging them to reconsider and cancel the planned protests scheduled for August 1 to 10, 2024.
In a statement personally signed by him and released today in Abuja, Professor Akande emphasized that engaging in protests characterized by property destruction would only exacerbate the country’s economic challenges.
Akande, a professor of Political Science, acknowledged the current economic difficulties but pointed to the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in addressing these issues.
He highlighted the government’s responsive actions and initiatives aimed at improving the economic landscape and addressing youth concerns.
In his statement, Akande stressed that violence and destruction have historically failed to resolve issues globally.
He encouraged Nigerians to allow the Tinubu administration the opportunity to implement its policies and initiatives designed to address the country’s economic crisis and respond to public demands.
Professor Akande’s appeal reflects a growing sentiment that peaceful dialogue and constructive engagement are crucial for Nigeria’s progress amidst its current challenges.
