All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Gbenga Adegbola, hosted party faithful, community leaders, and political stakeholders at his expansive country home in Saki during the Easter celebrations.
The event, which combined festivity with serious political discourse, marked a renewed call for unity, inclusion, and equitable governance across the diverse regions of Oyo State.
Dr. Adegbola, widely respected for his public service and strategic insight, seized the occasion to advocate for a structured system of rotational governance, a political philosophy designed to foster equity and reduce regional tensions within the state.
His proposition, met with applause and reflective silence in equal measure, aims to ensure that power circulates across Oyo State’s distinct geopolitical zones: Ibadan, Ogbomoso, Oke-Ogun, Ibarapa, and Oyo.
The Easter gathering brought together a cross-section of APC stalwarts from across the state which served not only as a platform for camaraderie and fellowship but also as a venue for strategic political recalibration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dr. Adegbola, in his keynote address, emphasized the symbolism of Easter as a time for renewal, sacrifice, and reflection. He urged party members to recommit to the ideals of integrity, service, and equitable governance that would foster true development in Oyo State.
“Just as Easter signifies resurrection and the triumph of hope, so too must our politics rise above narrow interests and embrace the broader vision of inclusive governance,” he stated.
The high point of Dr. Adegbola’s speech was his articulate proposal for institutionalized rotational governance across Oyo State. Drawing parallels with Nigeria’s federal character principle and existing power-sharing mechanisms in other states, he argued that this approach would create a sense of belonging among all regions, reduce political marginalization, and promote stability.
“If we are to build a truly united and prosperous Oyo State, then we must commit to a rotational model that allows each zone the opportunity to lead, to contribute, and to grow,” he said. “This is not just about fairness; it is about sustainable development.”
Dr. Adegbola added that rotational governance would serve as a political stabilizer, discourage unhealthy competition, and promote competence by encouraging each region to prepare its best minds for leadership.
His remarks are likely to reverberate across the political landscape of Oyo State, where the dominance of Ibadan in political affairs has been a recurring source of tension among other regions. While Ibadan accounts for a significant portion of the state’s population and electoral weight, calls for equitable distribution of leadership roles have gained traction in recent years.
