Reinstates Sanusi as Emir of Kano

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has issued a directive requiring the recently removed emirs to vacate their palaces within 48 hours. This action follows the reinstatement of Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano.
Daily Trust reported that the emirs affected by this directive were appointed by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, who had restructured the Kano emirate into five distinct regions, appointing an emir for each newly created emirate. The emirates affected include Karaye, Gaya, Bichi, and Rano.
The Kano House of Assembly, dominated by the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), recently repealed the legislation that allowed Ganduje to implement these changes. The repealed bill was then forwarded to Governor Yusuf, who signed it into law on Thursday evening.
During a media briefing after the signing, Governor Yusuf instructed the deposed emirs to vacate their official residences and palaces. He emphasized that they must hand over their duties and properties to the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs within the stipulated 48-hour period.
Governor Yusuf’s decision marks a significant shift in the administration of Kano’s traditional institutions, reinstating the pre-Ganduje structure and leadership.
