Chief Benedict Akika, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, has been abducted by suspected gunmen.
The kidnapping occurred on Wednesday night at Akika’s residence in Olorunda, Lagelu Local Government Area.
Reports indicate that the gunmen, heavily armed, forcibly entered Akika’s home and threatened to shoot anyone who attempted to resist.
A family source, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed that Akika was with his family at the time of the attack.
The source described a chaotic scene marked by sporadic gunfire intended to intimidate and deter any intervention from the local residents.
The abductors reportedly seized Akika and transported him to an undisclosed location. This incident follows a recent community engagement by Akika, who had generously provided work tools worth millions of naira to widows and the less privileged in his area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso, has confirmed the incident and stated that a thorough investigation is underway to locate and rescue the kidnapped PDP chieftain.
The authorities are currently working to ascertain the motives behind the abduction and to ensure the safe return of Chief Benedict Akika.
