The Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, received high commendation and a renewed pledge of support from the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation Technology during an oversight visit aimed at evaluating the institution’s operational status, challenges, and developmental priorities.
Led by Honourable Tajudeen Kareem Abisodun, Chairman of the Committee, the delegation undertook a comprehensive tour of NCAT’s facilities and received a detailed briefing from the College’s Rector and Chief Executive, Dr. Danjuma A. Ismaila. The visit underscored the strategic role NCAT plays in the development of Nigeria’s aviation industry, both locally and internationally, through its provision of critical training and professional capacity building.
In his remarks, Honourable Abisodun lauded NCAT’s long-standing contributions to aviation manpower development and reiterated the committee’s commitment to championing policy and legislative support that addresses the college’s most pressing challenges. He stated that the committee would carefully assess the Rector’s presentation to identify areas of urgent intervention, particularly those requiring legislative facilitation or increased budgetary appropriation.
Dr. Ismaila, in his presentation, highlighted NCAT’s pivotal position as a leading aviation training hub in West Africa, responsible for producing a significant proportion of the sector’s technical workforce. While commending the Federal Government, especially the Honourable Minister of Aviation, Olorogun Festus Keyamo (SAN), for previous and ongoing support, the Rector stressed the need for sustained financial commitment to enable the college to achieve its full potential.
He lamented the institution’s current wage structure, which he described as uncompetitive and a major contributor to staff attrition. He noted that many of the college’s highly trained personnel are frequently lured away by better-paying private and government institutions, undermining NCAT’s retention capacity.
In response, Honourable Abisodun assured that his committee would prioritize measures to improve the financial and institutional sustainability of NCAT. He expressed confidence in the Rector’s leadership and pledged to work collaboratively with relevant stakeholders to reposition the college for greater global competitiveness.
The visit concluded with renewed assurances of partnership and a shared vision for transforming NCAT into a globally recognized aviation training center of excellence.
