The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oyo State has announced the imposition of a movement restriction across strategic areas within the Ibadan North Federal Constituency, commencing from 12:00 midnight on Saturday, August 16, 2025, as part of security and logistical measures for the constituency’s scheduled bye-election.
Addressing journalists at the Commission’s state headquarters in Ibadan, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Adeniran Tella, disclosed that the restriction will affect several major border corridors and communities, including Sango–Eleyele–Apete–Ijokodo, University of Ibadan/Agbowo/Agbowo Expressway, and Beere/Oje/Odoye. Other areas under the order include the Gate/Basorun/Ashi axis, Mokola, and Adamasingba.
Dr. Tella further revealed that the measure would extend to twelve (12) designated Registration Areas/Wards, each hosting critical polling facilities.
According to the REC, 512 polling units will be operational during the bye-election, with 272,196 registered voters in the constituency. Of this figure, 217,980 voters have collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and are eligible to participate. INEC will also deploy 2,062 ad-hoc poll officials to facilitate the exercise.
Dr. Tella assured that the Commission has completed the deployment of all non-sensitive electoral materials to the Ibadan North Local Government Area, while sensitive materials are scheduled for collection on Thursday, August 14, 2025, from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). This process, he stressed, will be carried out under strict observation by political party representatives and security agencies to ensure transparency and credibility.
The Oyo State INEC boss reiterated the Commission’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, and credible election, urging political actors, party supporters, and residents to adhere to the movement restrictions and cooperate with security operatives to maintain peace before, during, and after the poll.
