Ronke Mary Adeleke, a civil servant with the Oyo State Ministry of Lands, has been sentenced to one year in prison for official corruption. The conviction was secured by the Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA) following a case of fraudulent activities.
The Chief Magistrate Court 1, Iwo Road Ibadan, presided over by Magistrate Taiwo Oladiran, delivered the verdict on Friday. Adeleke was found guilty of unlawfully collecting Six Hundred Thousand Naira (N600,000) from a victim under dubious circumstances.
The case was thoroughly investigated by the Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA) after the victim reported the misconduct. The investigation revealed that Adeleke exploited her position to embezzle funds from the complainant.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court has mandated that Adeleke refund the defrauded amount to the victim within one month. Following the sentencing, Adeleke has been handed over to the Nigerian Correctional Services.
This conviction marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to tackle corruption within the state’s civil service and underscores the commitment of OYACA to hold officials accountable for their actions.
