In a significant move aimed at easing the impact of recent fuel subsidy removals and advancing environmental sustainability, the federal government has officially handed over 20 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to the Oyo State Government. This event took place on Monday at the Pacesetter Transport Services (PTS) office in Ibadan.
The initiative, which was spearheaded by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, is part of the broader “Renewed Hope Agenda” designed to address the economic and environmental challenges faced by Nigerians.
President Tinubu, represented by Michael Oluwagbemi, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Programme Director of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (P-CNGi), emphasized the initiative’s dual purpose of mitigating the effects of fuel subsidy removal and promoting a safer, cleaner, and more reliable public transport system.
Speaking at the event, Oluwagbemi highlighted President Tinubu’s commitment to improving the quality of life for Nigerians.
“President Tinubu is deeply concerned about making life easier for our citizens. He recognizes the vital role transportation plays in the economic development of our nation and is committed to fostering an environment that supports sustainable and efficient transportation solutions,” Oluwagbemi stated.
The 20 new CNG buses are expected to enhance the public transportation infrastructure in Oyo State by providing a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional fuel options.
The shift to CNG is anticipated to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, lower operational costs for public transport services, and contribute to the overall goal of building a more sustainable transport network.
