An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and some other people have on Tuesday sustained varying degrees of injuries following a road accident in Ibadan, the Oyo State.

Reports have it that they sustained the injuries when a commercial motorcyclist ran into the personnel of the FRSC on the Ibadan-Abeokuta expressway.

The ghastly accident which occurred along Aba-Oke, a suburb of Omi Adio town, Ibadan left both the FRSC officer and the commercial motorcyclist with serious injuries.

It was gathered that sympathisers joined other FRSC officers to rescue the injured and transport them to a hospital for medical care.

Some eyewitnesses have recounted that the accident occurred when the FRSC officer crossed the expressway in an attempt to stop a car, without properly checking if there was an upcoming vehicle or motorcycle.

It was gathered that the commercial motorcyclist who ran into the officer, would have been able to manage the situation and avoid the accident if he was not on a high speed.

In the meantime, the FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Mr Adekanye Joshua Oluwafemi when contacted confirmed the incident.

He, however, attributed the accident to overspeeding and careless driving, describing the incident as unfortunate and avoidable.

He added that the incident involved one unregistered commercial motorcycle and one FRSC officer on the road.

“The commercial motorcycle operator is now receiving treatment at the University College Hospital (UCH), while the FRSC officer is taken to Ibadan Central Hospital, where he is also receiving treatment.

“Both victims are now stable” the FRSC boss assured.
