Must read

The Ilorin Emirate Community at Kwara State University (KWASU) has formally congratulated Professor Moyosore Salihu Ajao on his appointment as a member of the 4th Governing Council of the Eko University of Medicine and Health Sciences (EkoUNIMED), Ijanikin, Lagos, effective January 2026.

The congratulatory message was conveyed by the Chairman of the community, Professor Ibrahim Laro Abubakar, who described Professor Ajao as a proven architect of academic excellence with an outstanding record in medical education and institutional development.

EkoUNIMED, West Africa’s pioneer private medical university, is known for its focus on excellence and compassion, with programmes spanning Medicine and Surgery, Nursing Science, Dentistry, and other health-related disciplines, alongside Information and Communication Technology. The university has a continental vision of producing globally competitive medical professionals.

According to the Ilorin Emirate Community, Professor Ajao’s appointment aligns strategically with EkoUNIMED’s mission. Over the course of his career, he has supervised and trained one professor, 10 PhD graduates, more than 30 master’s degree holders, and over 200 undergraduate students in Anatomy as of 2022. His exposure to medical education systems across more than 30 countries is also seen as a major asset to the university’s global outlook.

Professor Ajao’s experience in institution-building was highlighted as particularly relevant. He currently serves as the pioneer Provost of the College of Health Sciences at KWASU and previously played a key role as a visiting pioneer Dean in the establishment of the university’s Medical School. He was also the immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences at the University of Ilorin, where he worked within a well-established medical education framework.
The community further noted that his leadership experience as the immediate past Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the University of Ilorin positions him well for governance responsibilities. His role in facilitating the reintegration of ASUU into the university’s governance structure after over two decades was cited as evidence of his diplomatic skill and ability to build consensus among diverse stakeholders.
These attributes, the statement said, would be invaluable to EkoUNIMED’s Governing Council as it balances the interests of founders, management, faculty, and students in a rapidly evolving medical education landscape.

The Ilorin Emirate Community expressed pride in the appointment, describing it as a natural progression in Professor Ajao’s career and a reflection of the intellectual strength of the Ilorin Emirate. The community also viewed the development as a contribution to national human capital growth in the health sector.

In closing, the community expressed confidence that Professor Ajao’s wisdom and integrity would strengthen EkoUNIMED’s governance and prayed that the appointment would mark the beginning of even greater service to education and humanity.
