A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Alhaji Wasiu Doyin Banjo has hinted at moves by the ‘Lagos Cabal’ to deny the state governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu a second term in office.
Banjo, a lawyer and current Financial Secretary of Lagos APC, gave this hint in a Facebook post, warning against such a move.
Banjo, an ally of the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, said denying Sanwo-Olu a second term may be counter-productive.
In the post tagged “Memo to the Lagos Cabal,” Banjo who is the Secretary of Lagos State Chapter of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) and Convener of BOS Frontiers, one of the support groups seeking the reelection of Sanwo-Olu, said: “You don’t want to give him a 2nd term? No wahala.
“Please ensure that a core politician is endorsed as a replacement, as no one will accept any technocrat anymore!
“Any technocrat that is brilliant should be sent to PHCN, TCN, or NNPC that is where we need experts and geniuses right now.”
It may not be clear who the cabal Banjo was referring to but speculation is rife of a surreptitious plan to deny Governor Sanwo-Olu a second term in office, according to findings by Lagos Monitoring Team.
Like his predecessor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, Governor Sanwo-Olu currently enjoys the support of various groups and stakeholders both within and outside APC seeking his reelection. However, fingers are crossed as to what happens at the end of the day.
Since coming on board as the 15th Governor of Lagos State on May 29, 2019, Sanwo-Olu has worked assiduously to complete inherited projects and also initiated new ones in line with the THEMES Agenda for a greater Lagos.
He was, however, slowed down by the unexpected COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent orgy of violence that trailed the #EndSars protest against police brutality.
