Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State officially presented the Staff of Office and certificate of appointment to Prince Akeem Abimbola Owoade as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo.
The solemn yet historic ceremony was held at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan, in the presence of distinguished guests, including traditional rulers, government officials, and prominent members of the Oyo community.
Governor Makinde highlighted the significance of the Alaafin as both a revered monarch and a custodian of Oyo’s historical and cultural legacy. He praised Prince Owoade for his dedication to upholding these values while steering the kingdom toward unity and progress.
“The Alaafin of Oyo holds a sacred responsibility as the embodiment of our traditions and a beacon of leadership for generations to come. I am confident that Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade will lead with wisdom, dignity, and commitment to the welfare of Oyo’s people,” Governor Makinde remarked.
Prince Owoade’s emergence marks the continuation of a royal lineage that has shaped Oyo’s history for centuries. He succeeds the late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, whose reign spanned 50 years and was characterized by cultural revival and regional influence.

“I stand before you deeply humbled and fully committed to serving Oyo with unwavering dedication,” Oba Owoade declared. “Together, we will advance the prosperity of our land while preserving the heritage that defines us.”
