Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has expressed profound shock and sorrow over the sudden death of Sheikh Muhydeen Ajani Bello, a prominent Islamic scholar and spiritual leader from Ibadan.
In a statement released on Friday in Ibadan, Governor Makinde described the cleric’s passing as “shocking and unexpected,” highlighting the significant impact the late Sheikh had on both the Muslim community and society at large.
Governor Makinde extended his heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of Sheikh Bello, as well as to the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta states, Alhaji Dawud Makanjuola Akinola, and the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh Abdulganiyu Abubakry Agbotomokekere.
He also sympathized with the Muslim Ummah across Nigeria, and specifically with the people of Oyo State, where the influential Ibadan-born cleric was a guiding figure until his untimely death.
In his statement, Governor Makinde praised the late Sheikh Bello for his exemplary leadership, emphasizing his courage, forthrightness, and patriotism.
The governor noted that the late cleric was not only a dedicated religious leader but also someone who demonstrated a steadfast commitment to the betterment of society, setting positive examples for others to follow.
Sheikh Muhydeen Ajani Bello was known for his unflinching devotion to Islam and his influential role in shaping the religious and social landscape of Ibadan and the broader Yoruba Muslim community.

Governor Makinde further called on the people of Oyo State to honor the late cleric’s legacy by emulating his virtues and continuing his work in promoting peace, unity, and social justice.
He also prayed for the repose of Sheikh Bello’s soul and for strength and comfort for his family and the entire Muslim community during this difficult time.
