Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has expressed optimism that the recently submitted report from the committee tasked with reviewing the state’s civil and public service rules will not only reinforce his legacy but also improve working conditions for state employees.
The governor made these remarks during a formal reception of the report at the Governor’s Office.
Governor Makinde commended the committee members for their diligent efforts, highlighting the importance of modernizing the existing civil and public service rules, which he described as outdated. He emphasized that the review was essential to transform the rules into best practices that meet contemporary governance standards.
“The findings and recommendations in this report will be crucial in shaping a civil service that is efficient and responsive to the needs of our people,” Makinde stated. “We are committed to ensuring that our workforce operates under conditions that are not only fair but also conducive to productivity.”
The governor announced that a technical committee will soon be established to develop a white paper based on the report, with immediate implementation in mind. He outlined plans to transition the civil service from manual processes to digital operations, aiming to reduce stress, eliminate delays, and alleviate the workload burdens currently faced by employees.
In his remarks, Chief Adebisi Adesola, the Chairman of the Committee on Review of Public Service Rules, underscored the significance of implementing the recommendations contained in the report. He argued that such implementation would lead to enhanced output and service delivery, aligning the state’s civil service with global best practices.
Adesola remarked, “The recommendations are designed to streamline processes, enhance accountability, and ensure that our civil service is equipped to meet the demands of the 21st century.”
The reception of the report marks a significant step towards reforming the public service sector in Oyo State, as the governor continues his efforts to improve governance and public administration in the state.
