A wave of high-profile resignations has struck the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ward 09, Saki West Local Government Area of Oyo State, following the exit of Senator Hosea Ayoola Agboola, popularly known as Halleluyah, from the party last week.
The development, which political observers describe as a major blow to the PDP’s grassroots structure in Oke Ogun, saw a mass exodus of key ward executives, elders, and loyal supporters who have now withdrawn their membership from the party pending Senator Agboola’s official declaration of his next political direction.
Leading the list of defectors is Sekoni Ilias, the immediate past PDP Ward 09 Chairman, alongside several influential figures including the former youth leader, woman leader, secretary, vice chairman, two ex-officio members, and one delegate. According to reports, the resignation was a coordinated decision, reflecting deep-seated loyalty to Senator Agboola, a towering political figure in Oyo State’s northwestern axis.
The departure of these notable figures has further depleted the strength of the PDP in Saki West, a zone long considered one of the party’s traditional strongholds. Insiders revealed that more members may follow suit in the coming weeks, depending on Halleluyah’s next political move.
Among the respected elders who have also aligned with the movement are Baba Ganiyu Alaka, former Chief of Staff, Saki West Local Government; Alhaji Ganiyu Okinaran, Baba Abimbowo, former Ward 09 Councillor; Alhaji Tajudeen Agoro, a former TESCOM Chairman; and Alhaji Mudashiru Awujoola, all of whom have publicly expressed their solidarity with Senator Agboola’s political ideology and leadership.
Sekoni Ilias disclosed that the decision was not made hastily but was borne out of “the need to realign with a leadership that prioritizes integrity, fairness, and development-oriented politics.” He added that the group remains united and would only announce their next political platform after consultations with Halleluyah and other key stakeholders.
The mass resignation underscores the widening cracks within the PDP structure in Oyo State, particularly in the Oke Ogun region, where Agboola has historically commanded strong political influence. Analysts suggest that the event may signal an impending political realignment that could reshape the power balance ahead of the 2027 elections.
As of press time, the PDP leadership in Saki West has yet to issue an official statement on the development, but sources indicate that efforts are underway to pacify aggrieved members and prevent further defections.
