The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially announced the results of the June/July 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal.
During a press briefing held in Minna, Professor Dantani Wushishi, the Registrar of NECO, provided detailed statistics and insights regarding the performance of candidates.
Out of a total of 1,376,423 candidates registered for the examination, 1,367,736 candidates actually sat for the tests, comprising 706,950 males and 669,473 females.
Notably, 60.55 percent of candidates achieved five credits or more in key subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. This translates to 828,284 candidates successfully meeting this benchmark.
Professor Wushishi highlighted that when considering five credits in any subjects, irrespective of English and Mathematics, the success rate increased significantly to 83.90 percent, with 1,147,597 candidates achieving this level of performance.
The examination also saw a marked decline in malpractice incidents, with NECO reporting 8,437 cases this year, a decrease of 30.1 percent compared to 12,030 cases in 2023.
However, the Registrar noted that 40 schools across 17 states were implicated in mass cheating, a serious violation of examination integrity.
He stated that these schools would be summoned for discussions, and appropriate sanctions would be imposed, including a recommendation for the de-recognition of one school in Ekiti for mass cheating in core subjects.
In addition to school-level issues, Professor Wushishi revealed that 21 supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to inadequate supervision and facilitating malpractice in 12 states.
