The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted significant weather changes across Nigeria, with thunderstorms and heavy rains expected from Wednesday, September 11 to Friday, September 13, 2024.
The agency’s latest weather outlook, released in Abuja, provides detailed predictions for various regions of the country.
In the northern region, NiMet anticipates thunderstorms over parts of Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, Katsina, Sokoto, and Kaduna states during the morning hours on Wednesday. The thunderstorms are expected to extend into the afternoon and evening, affecting Kano, Borno, Katsina, Adamawa, Kaduna, Taraba, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Jigawa states.
The North Central region, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, and Niger states, will experience thunderstorms in the morning. These conditions are expected to persist later in the day, spreading to Benue, Kogi, Kwara, and other parts of the FCT.
In the southern region, NiMet predicts thunderstorms in Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states during the morning hours. Intermittent rains are expected to develop later in the day over Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Anambra, Edo, Ekiti, Oyo, Rivers, Cross River, Delta, and Akwa Ibom states.
Given the forecasted heavy downpours, NiMet has urged residents to exercise caution and avoid flood-prone areas. The agency warns of a high likelihood of urban flooding in major cities, emphasizing the need for preparedness and vigilance during this period of adverse weather.
