Comrade Khalid Imran, a candidate in the 2025 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Oyo State Council election, has congratulated the newly elected executives, describing the poll as credible, peaceful and enriching despite his loss in the race for Treasurer.
The election, conducted under the supervision of the Credentials Committee chaired by Comrade Ismail Fasasi, produced Comrade Akeem Abas as Chairman, Comrade Abiodun Atilola as Vice Chairman, and Comrade Temidayo Adu as Secretary—all from the Great Minds Team. Imran’s opponent for Treasurer, Comrade Moses Morenikeji, won with 173 votes against his 140.
In a statement after the results were announced, Imran expressed deep gratitude to God and to all supporters who stood by him throughout the process. He noted that appreciating people is a demonstration of gratitude to God, adding that he remains thankful despite not emerging victorious.
He described the election as highly competitive, acknowledging the lessons, insights and meaningful relationships he gained while participating. According to him, the experience has strengthened his resolve and deepened his motivation to contribute to the union’s progress.
“As a Muslim, I am not discouraged. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve and for the trust many members placed in me,” he said.
Imran also extended warm congratulations to the new leadership and wished them wisdom and success as they steer the Oyo NUJ toward greater achievements.
