Ọba Sunday Adepoju Ayilola, the Oniro of Otuland, has declared the urgent need for a comprehensive political summit in the Oke Ogun region to reorient its political ideologies and awaken its collective consciousness ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the revered traditional ruler, such a summit would serve as a platform to galvanize the region’s political strength, promote unity, and chart a strategic roadmap towards securing political relevance, particularly in the race for the Oyo State governorship.
Speaking at his palace during a visitation of Dr. Gbenga Adegbola, Governor hopeful in Otu, Ọba Ayilola emphasized that Oke Ogun, if united and strategically positioned, possesses the demographic and political capital to challenge and surpass the traditional dominance of Ibadan in gubernatorial contests.
“Let me be clear, if Oke Ogun speaks with one voice and aligns its interests in 2027, Ibadan cannot defeat us at the polls. Our numbers, resources, and intellectual strength are not in question. What we lack is unity, purpose, and coordination,” the monarch stated emphatically.
He noted that the region has long suffered from fragmented political ambition, internal rivalries, and a lack of cohesive vision, all of which have hindered Oke Ogun from realizing its full potential within the political landscape of Oyo State.
As such, he called upon traditional rulers, political leaders, youth, and stakeholders across the 10 local government areas of Oke Ogun to convene and develop a comprehensive strategy for 2027.
In a passionate address, Ọba Ayilola charged other royal fathers in the region to rise above ceremonial duties and play active roles in shaping the political trajectory of Oke Ogun.
He called on them to “work collectively and relentlessly towards a prosperous 2027,” adding that the time has come for traditional institutions to become pivotal players in political reawakening and regional development.
The monarch also addressed the youth of Oke Ogun, describing them as the vanguard of any meaningful transformation. He urged them to remain focused, innovative, and committed to collaborative efforts that will yield productive political outcomes in 2027.
“Our youths must reject the politics of division and manipulation. You are not just the leaders of tomorrow — you are the architects of our future. Let your efforts be guided by unity and productivity,” he said.
In a final rallying cry, the Oniro of Otuland called on all elected representatives from Oke Ogun, including lawmakers, commissioners, and political appointees, to set aside selfish interests and forge a united front for the development of the region.
“We must stop trading the destiny of Oke Ogun for individual gains. If we truly love our people, we will prioritize regional progress over personal ambition. The time for self-interest is over; the time for unity and action is now,” he declared.
