The Oyo State House of Assembly has unanimously called for the establishment of operational stations for the Oyo State Security Network, commonly known as Amotekun, to enhance its effectiveness and boost the morale of its personnel.
This resolution was passed during a session presided over by Deputy Speaker Mr. Muhammed Fadeyi.
The motion, introduced by Mr. Abiodun Babalola, the representative for Ibadan North East state constituency 1, emphasized the urgent need for collaboration between the executive arm of government and local governments to construct suitable facilities for Amotekun across all local government areas.
The motion received support from Mr. Olorunpoto Abdulraham of the Oyo East/West constituency, highlighting a collective legislative commitment to improving security measures in the state.
In his remarks, Mr. Babalola noted that since its inception in 2020, Amotekun has played a pivotal role in reducing crime rates and enhancing overall security operations in Oyo State.
He stressed that the establishment of dedicated operational stations would not only facilitate more effective responses to security challenges but also provide necessary resources and support to personnel on the ground.
The Assembly also called for the integration of Amotekun staff into the mainstream state civil service, aiming to provide job security and better working conditions for the security operatives.
