Oyo Assembly Calls for More Fire Stations to Enhance Emergency Response

Must read

In a proactive move to enhance fire emergency response and rescue operations across Oyo State, the Oyo State House of Assembly has urged the Executive Arm of Government to establish additional fire stations across the state.

The resolution was reached following a motion presented by the Leader of the House, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin, and co-sponsored by Hon. Bamidele Adeola (Iseyin/Itesiwaju), Hon. Babajide Adebayo (Ibadan North 2), and Hon. Yinka Omikunle (Ibadan South East 2) during plenary.

The lawmakers emphasized the urgent need for a more robust firefighting infrastructure, highlighting the increasing frequency of fire incidents and the critical role of timely intervention in mitigating losses. The motion underscored the necessity of decentralizing fire stations to ensure swift response times, particularly in high-risk areas and commercial hubs across the state.

Supporting the motion, Hon. Olorunpoto Rahman (Oyo East-West Constituency) made a passionate appeal to the government to provide relief and assistance to traders affected by a recent fire outbreak at Ashamu Market in Oyo.

He commended both the state and federal fire services for their swift response but stressed the importance of a more proactive approach to fire prevention and disaster management.

The House called on the Executive to allocate necessary resources for the expansion of firefighting services, including recruitment of personnel, procurement of modern firefighting equipment, and public awareness campaigns on fire safety.
