The Oyo State House of Assembly has officially passed a bill to rename Okeogun Polytechnic, Saki, as Chief Michael Adeniyi Koleoso Polytechnic, Saki, in tribute to the late Chief Michael Koleoso.
The decision was reached following a thorough review by the House Committee on Education (Tertiary Institutions, Science and Technology), which presented its findings during a recent session.
Speaker of the House, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, emphasized that the renaming is a significant recognition of Chief Koleoso’s enduring contributions to both Okeogun and the broader Oyo State community.
“This bill is not just a formality; it acknowledges the legacy of a man who dedicated his life to the service and development of our state,” Ogundoyin stated.
Chief Michael Koleoso, who passed away on September 2, 2024, at the age of 86, had a distinguished political career. He served as Secretary to the State Government (SSG) from 1999 to 2003 under the administration of former Governor Lamidi Adesina. Earlier in his career, he was elected to the Oyo State House of Assembly in 1979, where he was appointed as commissioner by then-Governor Bola Ige within the same year.
In addition to his political roles, Chief Koleoso was a respected figure in Saki, holding the title of Babalaje until his death. His contributions to education and governance have left a lasting impact on the community.
The renaming of the polytechnic is seen as a fitting tribute to a leader whose influence and dedication shaped the region’s educational landscape and governance.
