The Oyo State House of Assembly has intensified efforts to address the deteriorating condition of Federal roads within the state, calling on the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to expedite repairs.
The Assembly’s decision follows a motion presented during the plenary session by Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin, the House Leader, highlighting the dire state of Federal roads in Ogbomoso township and various other locations across Oyo State. Hon. Adedoyin passionately underscored the adverse impact of these road conditions on residents, businesses, and transportation.
After thorough deliberations, the Assembly unanimously resolved to appeal to the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Works to prioritize the completion of the Oyo-Ogbomoso Road and undertake necessary repairs on other Federal roads within the state.
In addition to addressing road infrastructure concerns, the Assembly also deliberated on legislative matters aimed at enhancing governance and public service delivery in Oyo State. Notably, the Oyo State Fund Bill 2024, which seeks to establish the State Roads Fund Authority, successfully passed its second reading. The bill has been referred to appropriate committees for further review and eventual passage.
Furthermore, Hon. Musbau Azeez, representing Kajola State Constituency, tabled a motion urging the executive arm of the state government to establish fire service stations in each of the 33 Local Government Areas. This initiative aims to bolster emergency response capabilities and mitigate fire incidents across communities.
In a related development, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola of Atiba constituency advocated for the participation of public schools in the NECO Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE). This motion seeks to ensure standardized educational assessments and improve educational outcomes across the state.
