The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has achieved a sweeping victory in the Osun State local government elections, securing all 30 chairmanship seats and 332 councillorship positions across the state.
The Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), Hashim Abioye, officially announced the results at a press conference held in Osogbo, the state capital, on Saturday.
He affirmed that the election was successfully conducted and declared the PDP candidates as winners in all contested positions.
Abioye, acting in his capacity as the Chief Returning Officer, stated that the commission adhered to due process throughout the electoral exercise. He assured the public that the Certified True Copies (CTC) of the election results would be made available to any interested party.
“From the available results obtained from the field, the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 332 wards emerged as winners. Their names, as listed, I, as the Chief Returning Officer of the Commission, hereby declare them duly elected councillors of their respective wards,” he said.
He further added: “For the 30 local government areas of Osun State, the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party cleared all the seats. To this effect, by the power conferred on me as the Chief Returning Officer of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, I hereby declare the following persons as the duly elected chairmen of their respective areas.”
The PDP’s clean sweep has sparked mixed reactions across the political landscape. While PDP stakeholders have hailed the victory as a reflection of popular support and strong grassroots presence, opposition parties, particularly the All Progressives Congress (APC), have raised concerns about the credibility of the electoral process.
In a related development, PDP governors across Nigeria have lauded Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for the party’s electoral success, attributing it to his leadership and governance strategies.
Meanwhile, the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) has distanced itself from the Wike-backed South-South congress, signaling internal party dynamics that could shape future political engagements.
Opposition parties, including the APC, have alleged irregularities in the conduct of the elections, with some party officials describing the results as a predetermined outcome. However, OSSIEC has maintained that the elections were conducted fairly and in accordance with legal provisions.
