The Polytechnic Iresi is poised to make history as it hosts its first combined convocation ceremony on Thursday, February 20, 2025. The event will mark a major milestone in the institution’s journey, reflecting its growth, achievements, and commitment to academic excellence.
Speaking ahead of the ceremony, the Rector, Dr. Adewoyin Azeez Olakunle, described the convocation as a celebration of excellence, achievement and progress. “This event signifies that The Polytechnic Iresi has come of age. It’s an opportunity to showcase the academic excellence of our students, highlight the institution’s contributions to education, and place the Polytechnic on a national and global platform,” he said.
The convocation, which is set to attract attendees from all walks of life, will feature a range of activities, including: A thought-provoking convocation lecture on the theme “Education: The Pivotal Tool for Youth and Community Development”, awarding of National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) certificates to deserving graduates and recognition of distinguished individuals for their contributions to the institution and the Iresi community.
Dr. Adewoyin emphasized the significance of the ceremony for the graduates, stating that it would validate their hard work and present them as ambassadors of the institution. “For our graduates, this is a moment of pride and validation. They will leave here not only with certificates but also with the assurance that their education at The Polytechnic Iresi is recognized and respected,” he added.
The event will be presided over by the institution’s visitor, His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru Adeseun Ibiloye Odunmirin II, the Oluresi of Iresi Land, with representatives from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the Ministry of Education, State Government and other dignitaries in attendance.
Beyond academic celebrations, the convocation is expected to boost the local economy, as guests from across the country will utilize hotels, purchase goods, and engage with Iresi community. “The convocation is not just an academic celebration; it’s a socio-economic opportunity for the community. It will draw attention to Iresi and its potential as a hub of development,” Dr. Adewoyin noted.
Preparations for the event are in full swing, with committees actively working to ensure a memorable experience and special arrangements have been made to accommodate the expected large turnout.
Reflecting on his tenure as the Rector, Dr. Adewoyin expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead such a transformative event just few months into his leadership. “It is an honour to preside over this milestone. It reflects the collective effort of the staff, students, and stakeholders who have worked tirelessly to make this dream a reality,” he stated.
As The Polytechnic Iresi prepares for this historic occasion, all eyes are set on February 20, 2025, when the institution will showcase its progress, celebrate its graduates, and strengthen its reputation as a center of excellence.
