The Saki West Local Government House of Assembly rerun election, prompted by a Court of Appeal decision, culminated in a decisive victory for Hon. Shittu Ibrahim of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The intense competition against Hon. Femi Julius of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) captured the attention of voters and political observers alike.
The polling units of Ogbalanja and Odo Osun played a pivotal role in determining the outcome. At Ogbalanja, PDP led with 143 votes to APC’s 90, while Odo Osun witnessed a narrow victory for APC with 200 votes against PDP’s 190. These results underscore the importance of every vote in a tightly contested race.
Comparing the rerun results with the initial general election in March 2023, Shittu Ibrahim maintained a consistent performance. In the earlier election, he secured 13,692 votes, whereas Femi Julius garnered 13,422 votes. The rerun results, coupled with the previous mandate, solidify Shittu Ibrahim’s position as the elected representative for Saki West Local Government.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Oyeyinka Olusola Oyewo from the University of Ibadan declaration of Shittu Ibrahim as the winner signals the end of a closely watched electoral saga. As the elected representative, Hon. Shittu Ibrahim is now poised to contribute to the legislative agenda, addressing the needs and aspirations of the constituents in Saki West Local Government. The outcome reflects the democratic process in action and sets the stage for the continued political landscape in the region.
