Our attention has been drawn to a misleading statement credited to one Dr. Peter Amao from Oorelope Local Government, alleging that the sponsorship of a Bill by Hon. Kareem Tajudeen Abisodun (Were) for the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Saki amounts to a duplication of legislative effort.
This claim is not only misguided but also exposes a lack of basic legislative understanding. For the avoidance of doubt, the bill Dr. Amao referred to was sponsored during the 9th House of Representatives, which has since lapsed with the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly and the emergence of a new government.
In line with legislative procedure, all unpassed bills automatically expire at the end of a legislative session, requiring fresh reintroduction in a new Assembly. Therefore, Hon. Kareem Abisodun’s sponsorship of the Federal Medical Centre (Amendment) Bill, 2025 (HB.2509) is a legitimate continuation of that developmental vision — not a duplication.
The new bill is a strategic legislative intervention aimed at ensuring that the entire Oke-Ogun Zone, comprising over ten local government areas, benefits from equitable access to tertiary healthcare services.
It is important to clarify that the proposed FMC in Saki is not in conflict with any proposed medical facility in Igboho or Oorelope axis. Rather, it complements ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery across Oke-Ogun and decongest the overstretched medical facilities in Ibadan.
Hon. Kareem Were’s initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, which prioritizes equity, access, and infrastructural balance across regions. His legislative foresight reflects commitment to service, not politics.
We advise individuals like Dr. Amao to acquire basic legislative knowledge before rushing to the media with half-baked criticisms. The National Assembly thrives on informed engagement and constructive contributions — not mischief or misinformation.
Hon. Kareem Tajudeen Abisodun (Were) remains resolute in his mission to deliver meaningful representation and ensure that Oke-Ogun receives its fair share of federal attention in health, education, and infrastructure.
Oke-Ogun deserves progress — not propaganda.
