The member representing Saki West, Saki East, and ATISBO Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and Chairman House Committee on Aviation, Hon. Kareem Tajudeen Abisodun Were, has sponsored three key bills aimed at transforming Nigeria’s aviation and industrial innovation landscape.
The bills, which scaled their first reading at Tuesday’s plenary session, include:
1. Aviation Technology Innovation Hub (Establishment) Bill, 2025 (HB.2512)
2. National Aviation Technology Development Bill, 2025 (HB.2513)
3. National Shea Butter Research Institute (Establishment) Bill, 2025 (HB.2515)
The proposed legislations, according to Hon. Were, are designed to advance Nigeria’s aviation sector, promote research-driven industrial growth, and boost local economic productivity, especially in areas where natural resources such as shea butter serve as major sources of livelihood.
When passed into law, the Aviation Technology Innovation Hub Bill will facilitate the establishment of a world-class centre for aviation research, innovation, and capacity building to strengthen the country’s air transport infrastructure and human capital.
Similarly, the National Aviation Technology Development Bill seeks to provide a legal framework for coordinated research, development, and deployment of modern technologies within Nigeria’s aviation industry.
The National Shea Butter Research Institute Bill, on the other hand, is a bold step toward harnessing Nigeria’s shea butter potential — a commodity that supports thousands of rural women in Oyo and other northern states. The institute will focus on improving production standards, export quality, and market competitiveness of locally processed shea products.
Hon. Were emphasized that these bills are in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes innovation, local content development, and diversification of Nigeria’s economy.
“Our goal is to build structures that empower our people through knowledge, innovation, and opportunities. These bills reflect a commitment to sustainable growth and national progress,” Hon. Were said.
Political observers have commended the lawmaker’s efforts, describing his legislative interventions as strategic and visionary, with long-term benefits for both Oyo State and Nigeria’s broader economy.
