Renowned politician and retired military personnel, Dr. Gbenga Adegbola, has projected that Saki, a prominent town in Oyo State, will produce no fewer than seven Major Generals in the Nigerian Army within the next decade and a half.
Speaking at the inauguration of new executive for National Union of Saki Students (NUSS) National Headquarter held at Saki City Hall, Dr. Adegbola emphasized the increasing influence of Saki indigenes in the Nigerian military, citing the remarkable progress of officers from the town.
He revealed that from his own records, no fewer than 750 Saki-born military personnel are currently serving in various capacities across the armed forces, many of whom have benefited from his mentorship and support.
“I have personally contributed to the progress of numerous Saki-born officers, and I will continue to support them. Based on the trajectory we are seeing, I am confident that in the next 10 to 15 years, our town will have not less than seven Major Generals,” Dr. Adegbola stated.
Beyond his military projections, Dr. Adegbola also spoke strongly against what he described as the marginalization of Saki in political and developmental affairs. He asserted that Saki plays a crucial role in the economic and strategic development of Oke-Ogun and Oyo State at large.
“Saki is not just another town; it is a powerhouse in Oke-Ogun and a key player in the overall growth of Oyo State. Any form of marginalization against Saki is unacceptable, and we must work collectively to ensure that the town receives the recognition and opportunities it rightfully deserves,” he said.
