The Saki West Local Government Legislative Council has launched an investigation into allegations that the Executive arm of the local government is engaged in the unauthorized sale of public properties. The allegations, which have sparked concerns among residents, involve key government assets such as the Saki Post Office and the Saki West Local Government Quarters located beside Asabari FM, among others.
During a plenary session held earlier today, members of the Legislative Council deliberated extensively on the matter, expressing their discontent over the alleged transactions. The lawmakers, led by the Leader of the House, Hon. Salaudeen Soliu Abiodun, resolved to summon top officials from the local government to explain the circumstances surrounding the reported sales.
Following in-depth discussions on the issue, the Legislative Council resolved that all Supervisors, the Director of Finance, and the Director of Estate from both Saki West Local Government and Wewe Local Council Development Area (LCDA) must appear before the House during its next sitting, scheduled for Thursday, March 13, 2025. The lawmakers believe that these officials hold crucial information regarding the status of the public properties in question and must provide clarifications.
Additionally, the Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman of Saki West Local Government, Mr. Oluwaseun Oladeji has been summoned to appear before the Legislative Disciplinary Panel tomorrow, March 12, 2025. His appearance before the panel is expected to provide further insight into the alleged transactions and the role played by the Executive Chairman’s office in the controversial dealings.
The allegations of a “selling spree” of public properties by the Executive arm have caused widespread agitation among residents of Saki. Many fear that such transactions, if proven true, could lead to the loss of essential government infrastructure meant for public service and development.
Speaking on the matter, some residents have called for immediate action to halt any illegal sale of government properties. “These properties belong to the people of Saki, not any individual in power. If they are selling them off without due process, it is a betrayal of public trust,” said a concerned resident who pleaded anonymity.
