The Senate has approved bills to establish Federal Universities of Applied Sciences in Kachia, Kaduna State, and Ilaro, Ogun State.
The passage of these bills followed the adoption of reports from the Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND during Tuesday’s plenary session.
Senator Mohammed Muntari, Chairman of the Committee, presented the report for the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia.
He highlighted the support received from stakeholders during public hearings for the establishment of the university.
Muntari emphasized that the university would play a crucial role in providing scientific knowledge to address environmental hazards and offering professional studies in technology.
He stated that the institution aims to produce graduates equipped with practical and theoretical knowledge in technology, applied science, commerce, and management.
The Senator noted that the university would help reduce risks associated with productivity, data, information, cost benefits, marketing, and security.
He also expressed confidence that the establishment of the university would contribute to improving the national economy and reducing crime rates.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, commended the lawmakers for their contributions in ensuring the passage of the bills.
He expressed optimism that if signed into law by President Bola Tinubu, the universities would add to the country’s knowledge base, increase food production, and drive positive development.
The establishment of these federal universities is expected to provide more educational opportunities for Nigerians and contribute to the nation’s overall development.
