The Deputy Minority Leader of the 10th Senate, Senator Kamarudeen Olalere Oyewumi, Ph.D on Friday reaffirmed his commitment to advancing education in Osun State during a courtesy visit by the management of the Polytechnic Iresi to his hometown, Ikire.
The delegation, led by the Rector, Dr. Adewoyin Azeez Olakunle, who was represented by Mr. Abdullahi Salaudeen, Head of the Mass Communication Department and Chairman of the Admissions Committee, engaged the Senator in a wide-ranging discussion on how to expand opportunities for students in the state.
Highlighting Senator Oyewumi’s record of infrastructural projects across Osun West and his passion for educational development, the dialogue focused on sponsorship opportunities and collaborative initiatives between his office and the Polytechnic.
Senator Oyewumi described the visit as “timely and strategic,” noting that students sponsorship and empowerment were already central to his constituency programs, particularly through support for government-owned institutions such as the Federal College of Education, Iwo. He, however, assured that the Polytechnic Iresi would now be included in his plans, signalling fresh opportunities for collaboration to widen access to tertiary education.
“This visit comes at the right time. Educational empowerment has always been a priority for me, and I am committed to extending such initiatives to cover institutions like the Polytechnic Iresi,” the Senator said.
The meeting, facilitated by Mr. Saheed Adelugbin, an alumnus of the Polytechnic’s Mass Communication Department, beneficiary of Senator Oyewumi’s scholarship scheme, and currently one of his media aides, also had in attendance members of the Iresi Beacon Magazine editorial board.
Dr. Adewoyin, through his representative, commended the Senator’s longstanding contributions to education and assured him of the Polytechnic’s readiness to partner with his office in promoting academic excellence and students’ welfare across Osun State.
The visit underscored Senator Oyewumi’s growing influence as both a political leader and a strong advocate of educational development, while further positioning the Polytechnic Iresi as a key stakeholder in Osun State’s educational advancement.
