The recent surge in transformer vandalism in Saki has alarmed community stakeholders, prompting urgent calls for increased vigilance among residents. Several incidents involving the theft of transformer components have led to prolonged power outages, affecting both households and local businesses.
Several communities reported that in the past month, multiple transformers have been targeted, resulting in significant disruptions to electricity supply. The stolen equipment, essential for the operation of power systems, is often sold on the black market, compounding the challenges faced by the community.
In a meeting held at Irshad, leaders of twenty four (24) communities and concerned residents gathered to discuss the growing crisis and strategize preventive measures.
Residents shared personal accounts of how recent power outages have impacted their livelihoods. “As a small business owner, unreliable power has been devastating, We rely on electricity for our operations, and these thefts are making it increasingly difficult to serve our customers.”
Alh. Suhaib Azeez (Sport) noted that to combat the issue, stakeholders emphasized the importance of community engagement. They encouraged residents to form neighborhood watch groups and to report any suspicious activity around transformer locations.
“If we all remain vigilant and proactive, we can deter these vandals, It’s crucial that we take ownership of our community’s security.”
Additionally, there were suggestions for educational initiatives aimed at raising awareness about the consequences of vandalism. Community leaders proposed outreach programs in schools and local organizations to inform younger residents about the importance of safeguarding public infrastructure.
As the meeting concluded, participants expressed a strong commitment to fostering a culture of vigilance and cooperation.
