Oyo town witnessed a significant development in its judicial system as ten armed robbery suspects were arraigned before the Chief Magistrate Court on a twelve-count charge of robbery involving the use of firearms and other dangerous weapons.
The accused, identified as Oluwakemi Lawal, Taiwo Muhammad, Aliu Rabiu, Akeem Olusina, Michael Adewale, Bello Teslim, Dada Razaq, Ismail Azeez, Ololade Olamide, and Safad Muhammed, were alleged to have carried out a series of armed robberies across Awe and Akinmoorin areas sometime last year.
Presenting the charges, Barrister Fola Osegbade outlined the heinous acts committed by the suspects. They were accused of robbing victims of valuable items, including iPhones, laptops, wristwatches, and gold jewelry worth millions of naira.
In addition to these crimes, the suspects allegedly snatched luxury vehicles, including a Lexus car valued at twelve million naira and a Toyota sports car. Furthermore, they were said to have hacked into their victims’ bank accounts, withdrawing substantial sums of money illegally.
The victims of the robberies, including Olaleye Olanipekun, Olayemi Olajumoke, Oyewale Ifayemi, and a woman identified only as Peace, were present in court and expressed gratitude for the police’s efforts in ensuring justice.
Chief Magistrate Giwa Babalola, presiding over the case, ordered the remand of all ten suspects at the Abolongo Correctional Center. The court awaits legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to determine the next steps in the judicial process.
