The Polytechnic Iresi has reached a historic milestone with its first combined convocation ceremony, an event marking years of dedication, resilience, and commitment to academic and technological excellence.
Addressing a press conference at the John Oladimeji Oladiran Auditorium, the institution’s Rector, Dr. Azeez Olakunle Adewoyin, FCIB, emphasized the profound impact of the Polytechnic on both the local community and the broader Nigerian educational landscape.
In his address, Dr. Adewoyin expressed gratitude to Osun State Governor, Asiwaju (Dr) Senator Nurudeen Ademola Jackson Adeleke, for his unwavering support for infrastructure development and educational empowerment initiatives.
He also extended appreciation to the Visitor of the Polytechnic, His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru Adeseun Ibiloye (Odumirin II), the Oluresi of Iresi Kingdom, for his steadfast commitment to education and community advancement.
The Rector underscored the institution’s strong leadership structure, highlighting the collaborative efforts of the Governing Council and the Board of Trustees in steering the Polytechnic towards excellence. Special recognition was given to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Chief Dr. Oluwole Oludaisi Aina, a distinguished philanthropist, and the Governing Council Chairman, Deputy Corps Marshal Kayode Olagunju (Rtd.), Ph.D., for their invaluable contributions to the institution’s growth.
“The Polytechnic, Iresi, originated from a visionary initiative by the Iresi Progressive Union (IPU) under the Iresi Zenith movement, an assembly of dedicated individuals committed to the town’s advancement.”
“Initially conceived as a College of Agriculture, the idea evolved, leading to the establishment of the Iresi College of Technology in 2014. It commenced operations with four National Diploma (ND) programs in Accountancy, Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, and Computer Science.”
“Recognizing the need for a broader technological education framework, the institution secured approval from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in 2019 to transition into a full-fledged Polytechnic.”

Dr. Adewoyin reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to academic integrity and quality education, stressing the importance of timely processing of results, strict adherence to academic calendars, and zero tolerance for social vices such as cultism, drug abuse, and cybercrime.
As part of the convocation celebrations, the Polytechnic is set to graduate 1,914 students across multiple academic years, comprising 1,884 ND holders and the first-ever set of 30 Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates from the Accountancy and Computer Science departments.
The Rector congratulated the graduates, urging them to embrace hard work, resilience, and innovation in their career paths. He advised them to seek opportunities for entrepreneurship, self-development, and national economic contribution, rather than succumbing to social vices that could derail their futures.
Despite its remarkable progress, the Polytechnic faces infrastructural and financial constraints. Dr. Adewoyin made a passionate appeal to the government, corporate bodies, and well-meaning individuals to support the institution in the areas of Classroom buildings and laboratory equipment, Official vehicles (cars and buses), Computers and solar power systems, Books and learning materials
He also urged the NBTE to consider a more lenient accreditation cost structure for community-based institutions, recognizing their unique financial challenges.
The Polytechnic Iresi will be bestowing its maiden fellowship awards on distinguished individuals who have made significant contributions to education, economic development, and human capacity building. Dr. Adewoyin expressed confidence that these honorees would further support the institution’s growth through their resources and influence.
The Rector acknowledged the invaluable contributions of key stakeholders, including the NBTE Executive Secretary, Osun State Commissioner for Education, institution’s past and present management teams, faculty members, and students.
He reiterated the Polytechnic’s unwavering dedication to producing self-reliant, professional, and morally upright graduates equipped to tackle contemporary challenges and drive national progress.
