The Polytechnic Iresi Council Approves ₦300,000 Sponsorship For Iresi Beacon Magazine

In a remarkable show of support for media and academic development, the Governing Council of The Polytechnic, Iresi, under the leadership of the Chairman, DCM Kayode Olagunju, Ph.D., mni, (Rtd) has approved the sum of ₦300,000 to sponsor the production of the Iresi Beacon Magazine, a publication of the Mass Communication Department of the institution.
The approval came during a courtesy visit by members of the Iresi Beacon Magazine editorial board, led by the Head of Department of Mass Communication, Mr. Abdullahi Salaudeen, and accompanied by the Rector of The Polytechnic, Dr. Adewoyin Azeez Olakunle, to the Council Chairman at his residence in Ilesa.
The meeting, which was primarily aimed at briefing the Chairman on the ongoing production of the magazine, turned out to be a highly engaging and fruitful deliberation. DCM Olagunju, while pledging his personal and institutional support, stressed that the magazine must be produced with quality and high standards, noting that it is not only a departmental publication but also a medium to promote the Polytechnic and the Iresi community at large.
“This magazine must reflect professionalism, quality, and excellence. It is not just for the Mass Communication Department, but it represents the entire Polytechnic and the community of Iresi. Therefore, it must showcase the best we have to offer,” the Chairman emphasized.
The Council Chairman reiterated the Governing Council’s unwavering commitment to reforms and initiatives geared towards the progress of the Polytechnic. According to him, the current Council, made up of technocrats from diverse academic and professional backgrounds, remains focused on promoting discipline, professionalism, and accountability within the system.
DCM Olagunju frowned at the prevalence of indiscipline among some staff and students, cautioning that such practices could derail the institution’s mission. He strongly advised students to shun cultism and all forms of social vices, stressing that such distractions endanger not only their academic progress but also their future.
“Our focus as a Council is total professionalism. We will continue to support the welfare of staff and students, but we cannot compromise on discipline. Cultism and other social vices have no place in this institution. The Polytechnic must be a safe and nurturing ground for learning,” he warned.
Speaking further, the Chairman noted that the Council is committed to building a world-class Polytechnic that can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with leading institutions within and outside Nigeria. He assured that the Council under his leadership will continue to listen to the needs of staff, students, and the community in order to deliver quality education and position The Polytechnic, Iresi, as a beacon of excellence.
“This Council is ever ready to listen, to engage, and to provide the necessary reforms to make The Polytechnic, Iresi a world-class institution. Our students and staff deserve nothing less than the best, and that is the vision we are pursuing,” he added.
In his response, the Rector of The Polytechnic, Iresi, Dr. Adewoyin Azeez Olakunle, expressed profound appreciation to the Council Chairman for his continuous support. He noted that the institution has enjoyed unprecedented backing under the Chairman’s leadership, particularly in areas that directly impact staff and student welfare.
On behalf of the Department of Mass Communication, Mr. Abdullahi Salaudeen, the Head of Department, also thanked the Chairman and the Governing Council for their generosity and commitment. He assured that the Department will ensure the magazine meets professional standards and will be used as a medium to promote not only the Polytechnic but also the wider Iresi community.
