President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Abuja following a three-day official visit to Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea.
The visit, made at the invitation of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema, was marked by significant diplomatic and economic agreements aimed at strengthening ties between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea.
During the visit, President Tinubu and President Nguema signed a landmark agreement on the Gulf of Guinea Pipeline Project.
This agreement highlights a strategic partnership between the two nations with a focus on mutual development. It encompasses various crucial aspects, including legislative and regulatory measures for the gas pipeline, its establishment and operation, the transit of natural gas, and ownership of the pipeline. The agreement aims to bolster energy cooperation and enhance regional infrastructure.
In addition to the pipeline agreement, President Tinubu’s visit was instrumental in revitalizing the Nigeria-Equatorial Guinea Joint National Commission. This bilateral platform is set to facilitate further cooperation between the two countries.
Under the revitalized commission, a range of bilateral activities are planned, with several initiatives scheduled to commence in November this year.
The visit underscores both countries’ commitment to deepening their economic and diplomatic relations. The Gulf of Guinea Pipeline Project, in particular, is expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing energy security and fostering economic growth in the region.
