The Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Olushola Alao, has voiced strong support for the embattled Chief Imam of Ogbomoso, Talihat Yunus Ayilara, asserting that traditional rulers do not have the authority to remove religious leaders.
The support follows recent developments in Ogbomoso, where the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, appointed Habib Ayilara as the chief Imam for his palace.
This move has been perceived by the local Muslim community as an attempt to replace Talihat Ayilara, who has been at the center of a dispute with Oba Olaoye.
The ongoing conflict has led to a legal case being heard in an Oyo State High Court, seeking the removal of Talihat Ayilara from his position.
In response, Oba Alao issued a statement on Tuesday urging the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) and other stakeholders to maintain unity within the Ogbomoso Muslim community.
He emphasized that the division and conflict should be avoided for the sake of community harmony.
Oba Alao reaffirmed his support for Chief Imam Talihat Yunus Olushina Ayilara, stating, “I, the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Olushola Alao, stand with Chief Imam Talihat Yunus Olushina Ayilara.
He should continue his duties as the Chief Imam of Ogbomoso as he is the leader chosen by the Muslim community.”
The statement underscores a commitment to resolving the controversy amicably and preserving the unity of the Ogbomoso Muslim community.
